If you follow Gauge 3D, you already know we’re big fans of 3D printed fidget toys. But two designs get more requests than anything else in the shop: the infinity cube and the fidget snake. Today Gage is putting them head-to-head so you can figure out which one belongs on your desk. π¨οΈ
π² The Infinity Cube
An infinity cube is made of eight smaller cubes hinged together so it folds in on itself forever β flip it one way, then the other, and it never runs out of new shapes to make. It prints print-in-place, which means the hinges are already built into the print. No assembly, no glue, no tiny screws to lose. It comes off the printer ready to fold.
- Best for: quiet fidgeting at a desk or during homework
- Feel: satisfying clicks as each hinge locks into place
- Colors: looks incredible in rainbow silk PLA since every face catches the light differently
- Size: pocket-sized, easy to carry to school or the office
π The Fidget Snake
The fidget snake is a chain of triangular segments that twist and coil into shapes β S-curves, spirals, even a little ball. Like the infinity cube, it’s print-in-place, so the segments are connected right off the printer. It’s less about clicking and more about the smooth, continuous motion of bending it into something new.
- Best for: hands-on fidgeting and stress relief, kids and adults alike
- Feel: smooth twisting motion, low noise
- Colors: rainbow gradient filament makes each segment a different color, which looks amazing mid-twist
- Size: a bit longer than the cube, coils down small when not in use
π So Which One Wins?
Honestly? There’s no wrong answer. If you like a satisfying click and want something small enough to carry in a pocket, go with the infinity cube. If you like a smoother, more hands-on twisting motion and don’t mind something a little bigger, the fidget snake is for you. A lot of our customers just order both β they make a great pair, and they’re some of the most popular items alongside our functional prints.
π¨ Make It Yours
Both prints work great in almost any filament we stock, but here’s what Gage recommends:
- Silk PLA for a shiny, eye-catching finish
- Rainbow/gradient PLA so every twist or fold reveals a new color
- Matte PLA if you want a more subtle, professional look for the office
- Glow-in-the-dark PLA for a fun nighttime surprise
Want a specific color combo, a bigger size, or something totally custom? We do that too β check out our custom order guide to see how it works, or take a look at our full articulated dragon lineup while you’re at it β it’s another fan favorite that folds and flexes just like these fidgets.
